PERFECTION IS MYTHOLOGY

PEACE IN - LOVE OUT

C. A. ALLEN

IF if..  YOUR EAR is CLOSED

MY VOICE is SILENT

Ill with bipolar rage, swift ack-ack relentless insane moods, this quote:

"IF YOUR EAR IS CLOSED MY VOICE IS SILENT"

emerged gently and sadly out of nothingness with small cathartic tears and a grateful smile. My social worker as always graciously downplaying her listening, kindness and patience that is and was akin to angelic. It was a cool phrase and a serendipitous moment and we both chuckled for a few seconds at the poignancy and truth in what I had spoke.

Virtually "street-drug high" I was raging and crying in an extreme mixed manic phase. Such phases and reactions which occur in most intersecting mental health conditions are very scary, unsettling, disabling and unpleasant for both the sufferer and support workers, friends and family.

As a patient and non-academic I will brave a philosophical quagmire...

most mentally ill people do not want to behave in a bad way, think, say or shout anything harmful.. they want continuity, peace, tranquillity .. to feel better and regain a long-view, their long-view but their struggle to visualise this and brighter things and deep vanquished hopes that calmer waters and a former happier self may never return become too painful and heartbreaking.

I see my pain, anguish and similar emotions that others experience as sad but tangible components of recovery, stages in metamorphosis. People want to be happier again, to get back in the now and re-experience and re-connect with earlier vibrance, hobbies and pastimes and occupations that kept them hardy, content and fulfilled. Dialogue and compassion (and I say this after living through and surviving an episode which I consider to have been even tougher than enduring the pain and false fun of chronic disabling alcoholism) are vital. In all walks of life .. dialogue, compassion and eventual balance in the exchange of ideas are vital and integral to the lightbulb moment that gets an ill person well or a problem fixed.

and accordingly..
